​What is Jin Shin Jyutsu ?

Jin Shin Jyutsu is a gentle art that promotes optimal health and well-being. It facilitates our own profound healing capacity. Jin Shin Jyutsu is a valuable complement to conventional healing methods. Jin Shin Jyutsu induces relaxation, and greatly reduces the effects of stress. Stress has been widely recognized as causing everything from minor aches and pains to chronic health problems. The deep relaxation derived from Jin Shin Jyutsu brings balance to the body's energies, allowing the body to function better, feel better and heal more quickly.

In Japanese Jin means 'knowing, compassionate human being', Shin means, ‘divine nature' or 'creation', and Jyutsu (pronounced Jit-su) means 'the art of'. Thus, Jin Shin Jyutsu can mean 'the art of divine creation through compassionate human intent'. It is based upon an all-inclusive, ever moving (changing) energy that circulates throughout the universe, within and without every organism. Jin Shin Jyutsu is a very ancient art designed in part to harmonize your physical energies. Jin Shin Jyutsu self-help sequences can be easily applied.

How does it work?

Jin Shin Jyutsu employs twenty-six safety energy locks along energy pathways that feed life into our bodies. When one or more of the paths become blocked, the resulting stagnation can disrupt the local area and eventually disharmonise the complete path of energy flow. Holding these energy locks in combination can bring balance to mind, body and spirit. Jin Shin Jyutsu does not involve massage, manipulation of the bones or muscles, or use of substances. It is a gentle art practiced by placing the fingertips over clothing on designated areas to harmonise and restore the energy flow. This facilitates the reduction of tension and stresses which accumulate in the body through normal daily living. It is a gentle and unobtrusive, deeply relaxing, dynamic way of helping the body help itself.

The History

According to the Kojiki Record of Ancient Things, A.D. 712, which remains in the Archives of the Imperial Palace in Japan, Jin Shin Jyutsu predates written record. For millennia the Keys to the treasures of this Art were verbally passed from generation to generation. Today, Jin Shin Jyutsu is experiencing renewed popularity. It is non-invasive, gentle and quiet, yet its powerful methods of rejuvenation make it helpful to virtually everyone.

In the late 1940s Mary Burmeister, a Japanese American visiting post World War II Japan, serendipitously met and began studying with Jiro Murai, a Master of Jin Shin Jyutsu who rediscovered the art in the early 1900s. Jin Shin Jyutsu had fallen into obscurity until the young Jiro Murai researched and applied it on himself to cure an incurable life-threatening condition. Upon his recovery he devoted his entire being to the re-awakening of this ancient art. He asked Mary to bring this gift of healing to the West.

The Markey Cancer Center at the University of Kentucky offers Jin Shin Jyutsu (JSJ), an ancient form of touch therapy, free to its patients. JSJ practitioner Jennifer Bradley treats patients in a special therapy room or in their chair in the chemotherapy clinic. Research data from more than 450 sessions with 159 cancer patients revealed that all of these patients reported a decrease in stress, pain and nausea levels after JSJ.

Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help

Self-help is at the core of Jin Shin Jyutsu®. Through self-help, Jiro Murai first proved the efficiency of the Art to himself and from his self-healing, began the journey of its re-discovery. Mary Burmeister condensed the essence of the Art into three simple self-help books, which are unpretentious and unassuming. It provides the student, advanced or neophyte, with the dynamic tools for self-healing. Learning Jin Shin Jyutsu we discover that healing is an innate part of our natural functioning for example, a child sucks its thumb or fingers to soothe itself, a person presses their fingers to their forehead to concentrate, these are instinctive reflexes that are noted in Jin Shin Jyutsu.

Jin Shin Jyutsu engages one in self-study and self-help. Through the process of "Now Know Myself," we recognize the wisdom of the body and we learn to interpret the messages provided, to utilise these messages and restore balance. For those of us addressing existing stress or health disharmonies, or for those simply wishing to actively maintain health, harmony and well-being, the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu is a simple and powerful tool available to all.

Jin Shin Jyutsu Self Help Weekends

These weekends are specially designed for those of you that want to spend a weekend resting, relaxing and recharging while exploring Jin Shin Jyutsu. Two days dedicated for melting tension, unloading stress and restoring harmony in mind, body and spirit.

Jin Shin Jyutsu Physio Philosophy is an ancient art of harmonizing the life energy in the body. It is a valuable complement to conventional healing methods, inducing relaxation and reducing the effects of stress.

We will focus on studying the Trinity Flows, harmonising the Safety Energy Locks and we will be experiencing Basic Daily Tension/Stress Releases for MYSELF. Jin Shin Jyutsu is a combination of PHYSIO – PHISIOLOGY, PHYSIO – PYSCHOLOGY and PHYSIO – PHILOSOPHY that focuses on Getting to KNOW (Help) MYSELF.

£170 for the weekend includes course materials, refreshments and a light vegetarian lunch. We offer a discount to review students and for those requiring concessions (i.e. only £90 for the weekend).
